Tempest

Rain falls in scattered bursts
Ferociously beating down on the earth
A promise of what’s to come
No warning as the torrent reaches a climax
Flooding the solid ground and teasing the plains

The land heaves, dragging the mountains along
Clay cracking as the ground splits
Shaking steady footing
Ripping apart everything in its way
As the wind strikes at tall that is unsheltered

The wind swirls in a violent dance
Blind to the damage it causes all around
Swaying the mournful trees
And commanding towering waves
To crash forcefully on the smashed shore below

The air shatters with a shriek
And the crash of thunder breaks up
The monotony of the rain
Hollowing thud of breaking ground
And the wild whisper of the merciless wind

The pounding rain eases
Ceasing to drown the defenseless ground
Swollen tides recede
No longer flooded by the squall
And the boggy land heals to renewed firmness

The tremors halt
Jarringly leaving the earth to return
From the starkness
Left by the attack to the state
Of flowing planes and mountainous refuge

A breeze now occurs
Relieving the surging wind
To settle in calm
Against the face of devastation
And murmur appreciation to stillness

Tranquility gains control
The cries of the gale are heard no more
As the display ends
Thunder refrains from disclosing itself
To give way to blissfully ignorant silence

The dust once again terra firma
The mountains healed to fill in the valleys
Calm breeze restored
And silence reigns supreme
Against the odds that were put in place

Tears have ceased, ragged breathing eased
Angry voices calm
Now you can return to life
After once again weathering the forced storm
